Revit & Rhino integration

Do linked Revit files come into Motif?

Yes. If linked models are visible in your Revit model, they will be visible in Motif.

Do I need to have Revit open to see my model in Motif?

No — your model stays visible in Motif after publishing.

How does Motif work with Revit worksharing and BIM360 Collaboration?

Sync to central in Revit first, then stream your model to Motif. This ensures Motif receives the most up-to-date version.

Can I connect to my Revit models directly from ACC (Autodesk Construction Cloud)?

No. Models must be streamed from Revit using the Motif plugin — direct ACC integration is not currently supported.

How do coordinate systems work? How do I line up models from different applications?

Revit models stream to Motif using Revit's Internal Origin, which maps to the Motif canvas origin. When streaming multiple models, ensure they share a common coordinate origin in their source applications.

Platform capabilities

What plugins does Motif support?

Motif has plugins for Revit and Rhino. See 📄 Install the Motif Plugin (Revit & Rhino)

What devices can I use Motif on?

Motif runs in any modern web browser, though Chrome or Edge are recommended — on desktop or laptop. A mobile app is not yet available.

Can I embed video in a Motif board?

Not yet.

Can I import point cloud files from Autodesk ReCap Pro?

Not directly. However, point cloud data captured externally can be imported into Motif via GLB if converted first.

How do I export content from Motif?

Right-click any image, AI rendering, placed View, or Frame on the canvas and select Save as PNG or Save as JPG. The file will download to your browser's default downloads folder.

Does Motif have templates?

Not yet. In the meantime, you can use imported SVGs to create reusable layouts.

User access & collaboration

Can I invite external users like consultants or clients?

Yes. You can invite external users to a specific project as a Guest with any project role — Editor, Reviewer, or Viewer. If you want to give them access to all projects in your Organization, you can also add them as an Org member. See 📄 Understand roles and permissions

Comments

How are Motif comments stored in Revit, and how do I hide them?

Comments are transient — they only appear in Revit while you are connected to Motif through the plugin. They are not saved to the Revit file or synced to central. In Revit, they appear as Generic Models (3D) and Generic Annotations (2D). To hide them, turn off those categories in your Revit visibility settings, or uncheck Show comments in the Motif plugin panel.

How can I capture comments from a specific meeting or review session?

Comments in Motif are attached to assets or sketch elements, and will appear wherever that asset is visible. For meeting-specific comments, consider using a dedicated board for that session and attaching comments to sketch elements on that board.
