Reducing model size and publish time to Motif
Last updated: April 24, 2026
If the model you publish to Motif is large, these options can help reduce it, improving performance and publish speed:
1. Reduce 3D geometry (Revit)
Limit elements in the Motif 3D View so less geometry is published. Fewer visible elements mean a smaller model and faster publish times.
2. Remove embedded images (Revit and Rhino)
Remove embedded images you don’t need in Motif before publishing.
Revit: Manage tab → Additional Settings → Manage Images.
3. Adjust mesh quality (Revit and Rhino)
Lower mesh quality reduces file size. Higher quality increases it. You can change this in the Motif plugin settings:
In File Explorer, open:
%localappdata%\\MotifPlugins\\Note: this resolves to a location like
C:\\Users\\<username>\\AppData\\Local\\MotifPlugins\\
Open the folder for your plugin version and product (for example,
1.7.1249\\RhinoPlugin8\\for Rhino, or the matching Revit folder).Locate and open
revit-settings.jsonorrhino-settings.json.Find MeshQuality and set its value:
Value | Description |
Use the Revit/Rhino application default quality level
Lowest quality, smaller size
Relatively low quality
Highest quality, larger size
4. Publish fewer sheets (Revit)
If sheet publishing is slow, you can speed things up by reducing the number of sheets published. Edit which sheets are included in the Motif Sheet Set before you publish.
