Upload and place 2D + 3D assets

Last updated: July 20, 2026

Motif supports direct upload of 2D and 3D files, as well as live 3D model streaming from Revit and Rhino via plugins. This article covers direct file upload. For plugin-based workflows, see📄 Stream and publish from Revitand📄 Stream and publish from Rhino. Once uploaded, assets live in the Asset Library and can be placed on any board in the project.

Upload by dragging and dropping

The fastest way to get a file onto your board:

  1. Open a board.

  2. Drag a file from your computer directly onto the canvas.

The file is placed on the canvas immediately as an asset instance and added to the Asset Library automatically.

💡 Drag and drop is best for bulk uploads. Use the Asset Library method below when you want to upload first and place later.

Upload via the Asset Library

  1. Open a board and click the left drawer icon to open the Asset Library.

  2. Click + Add asset at the top of the panel.

  3. Follow the prompts to select and upload your file.

  4. Once imported, the asset appears in the Asset Library.

  5. To place it on the board, click and drag it from the library to the canvas.

âš  Only one asset can be placed from the Asset Library at a time. Multi-select placement is not currently supported.

Supported 2D formats

JPEG, PNG, SVG, and PDF files can all be uploaded directly. Revit sheets are published via the Revit plugin.

When you drop a multi-page PDF onto your board, a page-selection view opens so you can choose exactly which pages to place. Pick all of them, none of them, or just the sheets you care about — only the pages you select are added to the canvas, while the entire PDF set is added to the the Asset Library.

💡 Single-page PDFs place immediately, with no selection step.

Supported 3D formats

OBJ, GLB

Resize and position assets

After placing a 2D asset on the canvas:

  • Click and drag the corners to resize it.

  • Click and drag the asset to reposition it.

  • Use the Properties panel in the Noodle to set exact position, size, and rotation values.

  • Toggle the lock icon in the size controls to maintain or release the aspect ratio.
