Model walls, floors, and ceilings
Last updated: October 1, 2026
Draw the shell of your building and see how the pieces work together: walls that join themselves, floors driven by a sketch, and ceilings that feed your reflected ceiling plans.
Draw walls
Select the Wall tool.
Click to place your first point, then keep clicking to chain walls together. Motif snaps to endpoints, edges, and centers as you go.
Set the wall height directly, or attach the top of the wall to a level above. Attached walls follow the level: move the level, and the wall moves with it.
Walls join themselves
Walls join automatically as you draw, and not just within the chain you're drawing. Draw toward a wall that's already in the model and the two join cleanly, with no extra step. Corners, tees, and intersections are all handled as you model.
Turn lines into walls
If you've sketched model lines first, you can convert them:
Select the Wall tool, then click Pick line wall on the far right of the wall toolbar.
Click a line to turn it into a wall.
⚠ The line doesn't highlight when you hover over it in Pick line wall mode. Click it anyway and the wall is created.
⚠ Selecting overlapping objects. Click and hold over a spot to open a menu of everything under your cursor, ordered by distance from you.
💡 You can also ask the agent to convert your linework into walls.
Create floors
Floors are defined by a sketched boundary.
Select the floor tool, or find a floor in the Content Library and click Place. Either way, Motif starts a boundary sketch.
Draw the boundary of the floor.
Close the sketch to create the floor.
The floor is parametric: edit the sketch and the floor updates with it. If the slab extrudes the wrong way, flip its direction.
Add ceilings
Ceilings work the same way as floors, with a sketched boundary, and are placed per level.
Ceilings feed your reflected ceiling plans (RCPs). See 📄 Create floor plans, sections, and 3D viewsfor full details.
Your views stay live
Change something in one place and it updates everywhere. Anything you model in 3D appears in plan and section, and edits in plan update the 3D model.
There's no separate step to produce drawings from the model. The drawings are the model.
Or describe what you want
If you'd rather say it than draw it, describe what you want to the agent and it models it for you. For example, select two walls and ask "Close the gap between these walls."
What's not supported yet
A few shell elements you may be used to from Revit aren't in Motif Design yet:
Wall assemblies. Walls have a single thickness and material. You can't build compound walls with layers like stud, insulation, and finish.
Sloped roofs. Roofs and slabs are flat.
Curtain walls. There's no curtain wall or storefront system yet.
💡 Need one of these now? Model it in Revit or Rhino and publish it to your project, then link it into your model. See 📄 Link another model into your modelfor full details.
