Motif Design keeps getting better every week. Here's a roundup of everything that's reached Motif Design.
Week of Oct 26, 2026
Modeling & Editing
Edit in sections and elevations — You can now move, copy, array, rotate and paste objects directly in section and elevation views. Items tied to a level slide sideways, and doors and windows slide along their wall.
Ceiling outlines editable in RCPs — Select a ceiling in a reflected ceiling plan to see grips on its edges and corners, then drag to reshape it.
Room from walls and Rooms on level — With Create ▾ Room armed, choose Room from walls and click inside closed walls to create a room in one step, or Rooms on level to create a room for every enclosed space on the level.
Name placed instances — The Name field in Properties now names the selected item itself, so you can name each room without renaming the Room asset. Clear the field to go back to the asset name.
Editable temporary dimensions on lines and floors — Type a value into a temporary dimension on a model line, detail line, or floor, ceiling or roof edge to move it precisely. Joined lines follow.
Snap in 3D — Move, Copy and Array snap to the X, Y and Z axes again, even over a floor or ceiling. Placement tools snap to real surfaces in 3D.
Snap to more of your model — In plan, Move, Copy and Array snap to visible corners of imported models. Door and window edges snap in section views, and annotation snaps update right away after you edit a curve.
Move and rotate fixes — You can now move elliptical walls and model lines. The rotate ring hides while a tool is active, and your selection stays highlighted during Move, Copy, Rotate and Array.
Copy and paste at the right height — Furniture and other free-standing objects now paste at the same height relative to their level.
Wall, selection and room click fixes — The wall tool remembers your width when you pick it again, walls stay selected when you switch between plan and RCP, and clicking inside a room selects the room.
Drawings & documentation
Flat lighting in 2D views — Plans and reflected ceiling plans now draw with even, flat lighting, so ceilings no longer look dark gray. Shadow settings apply only to 3D views.
Tag color and pen-weight defaults — Set a default tag color and pen weight for the whole model and override them per view. In sections and elevations you can hide level heads or shorten datum lines for that view only. Level-head leaders now use the level's color.
Model images at their real height — Images placed in the model now appear only in the plans that include their height, so an image placed on an upper floor no longer shows up on the ground floor plan.
Dimension placement modes — When placing a dimension, choose Auto, Length or Angle, slide each label along the dimension line, and choose which side the text sits on in the properties.
Measure tool readability and path total — Measurements are easier to read in 3D and stay on top of text in plans. The running total of a multi-point measurement now shows in the toolbar, with a button to copy it.
Text box border patterns — Give a text box a dashed or dotted border using the new Pattern picker next to border weight. The pattern prints at the same size in PDF.
Drag mixed selections on sheets — On a sheet, select views and text boxes together and drag them as one, with alignment guides to keep them lined up.
Text tool click and drag — Click to place a note that fits its text, or drag to set the width the text wraps at.
3D crop grips stay put — Crop grips on a 3D view stay visible after you orbit away, and dragging one changes only the view's width or height.
Speed & stability
Faster loads for models you've opened before — Reopening a model is much faster: Motif downloads only the changes made since your last visit, and linked models are cached too.
Big models cached reliably — Very large models are now saved to your browser after the first open, so they reopen in seconds instead of downloading again.
Models appear sooner while loading — Models draw without shadows and edges while loading, then show them once loading finishes. Large models load faster as a result.
Fewer out-of-memory crashes — Large models use less memory while loading, which reduces "ran out of memory" crashes, and a crash on first draw is fixed.
Faster section-box views — Views cut by a section box redraw faster, up to 60% on large models.
Incomplete loads fail clearly — If a model doesn't fully download, Motif retries once and then shows "Failed to load model" instead of showing part of it. Each model downloads once more after this update.
Interoperability
Revit walls as native Motif walls — Basic walls published from Revit now arrive as native Motif walls you can edit.
Rhino blocks that were mirrored or scaled no longer appear inside-out. (Plugin 1.7.2186)
Revit sheets keep their title block — Sheets published from Revit now include their title block and sheet size, and partial ellipses in detail lines publish correctly. (Plugin 1.7.2190)
Edit Revit category and IFC class in bulk — Select several items and set their Revit category or IFC class in one step. Mixed values show as "Mixed".
Point clouds in color — Imported meshes and point clouds keep their colors, glTF point clouds import correctly, and OBJ files keep their colors and smoothing.
AI agent
Choose how hard the AI thinks — A new effort menu in the chat box lets you pick Low, Medium (recommended) or High. Higher effort takes longer on complex requests.
Run workflows from chat — Saved workflows now appear in the skill picker and the / menu. Starting one opens a form with its inputs filled in from your message, so you can check them before it runs.
Formatted answer choices — When the AI asks you to pick an option, your answer keeps its formatting in the chat.
More reliable asset placement by the AI — The AI handles requests that place assets more reliably.
Account, platform & admin
History panel redesign — The History panel groups changes with clearer headlines and adds a confirmation step before you restore an older version. Note: the new headlines move behind a setting in the next release.
Sign-in upgrade — Sign-in, multi-factor authentication and password reset now run on an updated system. Nothing changes in how you sign in.
Project context file types — Project Context now accepts PDF, Markdown, text, CSV, JSON, images and Office files. Other file types, including SVG, are refused with a clear message.
Sharing and confirmation dialogs — Sharing a project retries automatically if a connection hiccups. Pressing Enter on a highlighted Cancel button now cancels instead of confirming.

Modeling & editing
One way to move things — Click-and-drag and Move now work the same way, and mixed selections move together without skewing. The separate Drag button has been removed.
Drawings & documentation
Consistent visibility everywhere — Showing or hiding a category now works the same way in 3D, drawings, sheets, snapping and PDF exports.
Line weights follow drawing scale — Line weights now scale with the view, and sheets print them at true paper size.
Duplicate with detailing — Right click on a View or Sheet from the let panel and click Duplicate with Detailing to copy its notes, dimensions and drawn content along with it.
Edit dimension references — Drag the grips on a dimension to move what it measures to. In Edit Dimension String, click to add a reference and Shift-click to remove one.
AI agent
Easier chat scrolling — A new Jump to latest button takes you to the newest reply, and the chat no longer jumps while you scroll back through earlier messages.
Account, platform & admin
Clean sign-out — Signing out now clears the previous account's data, so the next person to sign in on that browser starts fresh.
Content Library + menu — A single + menu at the top of the Content Library offers Add to this model and Add external content.
Week of Oct 12, 2026
Modeling & editing
Type wall dimensions — While drawing a wall, type its length and other values directly, and press Tab to move between them.
Doors and windows stay put when walls resize — Resizing a wall keeps its doors and windows where they were.
Better default door and window — Place ▾ Door and Place ▾ Window now start with a single metal-frame door and a fixed aluminum window. New doors swing toward the side your cursor is on.
Selection survives view changes — Switching between plan, section, 3D and RCP views keeps your selection, as long as the items are visible in the new view.
Drawings & documentation
Dimension units on sheets — Sheet dimensions can show decimal inches or centimeters. Metric labels no longer repeat the unit on every value ("4.000" instead of "4.000 m").
Section line breaks and more places to add sections — Break a section line into two short segments using its grips. You can also add sections and elevations from section, elevation and 3D views, not just plans.
Speed & stability
Faster loading for large models — Large models load 27–60% faster because the view refreshes less often while data arrives.
Local model copies — Motif keeps a copy of each model in your browser and reuses it when you reopen the model.
No long freeze when opening big models — Large models open without the long freeze: the longest pause dropped from 22 seconds to about 3.
Interoperability
Revit sheets as images — Sheets published from Revit now appear in Motif as images, like in Motif Review. This release also fixes a Revit crash when publishing rooms and areas. (Plugin 1.7.2175)
AI agent
Select, isolate or color by description — Ask the AI to select, isolate or color objects by describing them, for example "color the exterior doors red."
Clearer AI work details — Each AI reply now has one Work details section showing the steps it took, with readable step names.
Ask the AI about rooms — Ask the AI for a room's area, which room a point falls in, or which rooms share a wall.
Week of Oct 5, 2026
Modeling & editing
Move and copy in 3D — In 3D views, Move, Copy and Array snap to real corners at their actual height, so you can move or copy things up, down or in any direction.
Snap to geometry above and below — Drawing tools can snap to geometry above or below the plane you're drawing on, and to the true top and bottom of solids.
Axis lock and alignment guides — Hold Shift to lock a move, sketch or placement to the nearest axis. Automatic alignment now uses Cmd (Mac) or Ctrl (Windows). Alignment guides stick where lines cross.
Rooms — Draw rooms from the Create menu: outline the room and press Enter. Room numbers accept any text, such as "101A", and rooms imported from Revit show a colored fill in plan.
Drawings & documentation
Door plan symbols — Doors in plan now show the full door leaf and its swing arc, including both leaves on double doors.
Reflected ceiling plan fixes — Ceiling, floor and roof tools work normally in reflected ceiling plans, and tooltips appear at your cursor.
Speed & stability
Smaller download — Motif's 3D engine is a quarter of its previous download size, so return visits start about 16% faster.
AI agent
Long chats summarized automatically — When a conversation gets long, the AI summarizes earlier messages so you can keep going. Your full history stays available.
Account, platform & admin
Archive models — Archive models you're no longer using from the Models tab or Recents. Archived models open read-only, and you can show or hide them with Show only archived.
Week of Sept 28, 2026
Modeling & editing
Type exact move, rotate and array values — Type a distance for Move or Copy, an angle for Rotate, or a count for Array. You can edit the value after the operation to adjust it.
Snap only to what you can see — Hidden or covered objects no longer act as snap points or show temporary dimensions.
Measure snaps like drawing tools — The Measure tool snaps to curves, intersections, imported geometry and alignment guides, and draws on top of 3D geometry.
Edit several items at once — Select several copies of the same asset to change their shared properties together. Values that differ show as "Mixed", and one undo reverts all of them.
Units and number entry — You can type decimal inches in feet-and-inches fields. Models without set units now default to meters.
Drawings & documentation
Drafting views — Create a drafting view for details and notes that aren't tied to the model. Drafting views have their own scale and can be placed on sheets and exported.
Speed & stability
Load progress — While a model loads, the view icon shows a progress ring with a percentage.
Interoperability
Import a GLB model — In the Content Library, use This model + to import a GLB file into the open model, or External Source + to add a model from another project.
AI agent
Starter prompts — New chats show starter prompts to help you get going, and you can ask the AI "What can Motif do?" for a tour.
Saved workflows — Saved workflows can pause to ask you for input, resume where they left off, and finish with a clean result.
Ask the AI about what's on screen — Ask about what you can see, such as "that thing on the left" or "how many doors can I see?", and get answers faster.
Approve AI actions in connected apps — Before the AI reads or writes in a connected app, it shows a card with the account and action so you can choose Allow once or Deny.
Week of Sept 21, 2028
Modeling & editing
Snap labels — While drawing, placing or measuring, a label next to your cursor tells you what you're snapped to, such as an edge, grid point or wall.
Speed & stability
Faster Project page — The Project page loads faster, especially for projects with many models.
Interoperability
True North from Revit — Models published from Revit keep their True North orientation. This release also fixes the plugin getting stuck on Sign In. (Plugin 1.7.2134)
Week of Sept 14, 2026
Modeling & editing
Rotation ring — Rotate a selection by dragging the ring around it, or click and type an exact angle.
3D move and rotate gizmo — Turn on the gizmo from the toolbar to move and rotate furniture and other free-standing objects in 3D.
Edit imported Revit walls — Walls imported from Revit can now be moved, rotated, dragged, copied and arrayed.
Speed & stability
Faster opening and version switching — Models open about twice as fast, and switching between versions loads only what changed.
AI agent
Image and 3D generation — The AI can turn an image into a 3D model, and ChatGPT Images 2.5 is now available alongside Gemini for image generation.
A more capable agent, powered by GPT-6 Astra. The agent, and the helper agents it hands work off to, now run on GPT-6 Astra by default. It's a big step up in how well the agent understands what you ask for and how well it builds it.
Account, platform & admin
Fewer unexpected sign-outs — Fixed an issue that signed people out every 30–60 minutes.
Organizations and access requests — New organizations start with a demo project, and people without access can request to join.
